Fastest Band in the South - Top brass musicians from The Jaguar (Coventry) Band teamed up with Verwood Concert Brass when they staged a joint concert at the Boscombe Salvation Army Hall last weekend. Verwood opened the concert, under the baton of their MD David Johnson, while the visitors from Coventry took the stage after the interval, conducted by David Lea. As a finale both bands performed together with the two conductors taking turns. The audience were treated to the magnificent sound of 50 excellent brass musicians all putting their hearts and souls into some truly stunning music. It is hoped that the joint concert will become an annual event and will be a date to put in the diaries of all lovers of brass band music.

Verwood Concert Brass played to a packed house at The Hub last weekend. The band’s Christmas Concert has become so popular that performances were given on both the Friday & Saturday nights. The audience were not disappointed as they had 3 bands for the price of one! The concert was opened by the prize winning Verwood A Band under the baton of David Johnson. This was followed by the Training Band, who delighted the crowd with a truly festive programme under the direction of Ian Harris. The 2nd half was opened by the newbies, Verwood B, who started & ended with carols that the audience sung with gusto. The B Band has flourished under Trevor Naughton & now has sufficient members to compete in the West of England Regional Contest in March 2010. The A Band retook the stage & finished with a rousing finale of “Kingdom Triumphant” by Eric Ball. The 3 bands that form VCB now boast a total membership of over 80 players.
